Handcrafted Bonsai Wire Sculptures
Handcrafted Bonsai Wire Sculptures
”Between every two pines there is a doorway to a new world” - John Muir
I have always enjoyed walking in the woods or sitting under a tree. It brings solace, comfort and joy. The most interesting trees tell tales with their twisted bark and gnarly branches - they share their story of strength, longevity, resilience and beauty. I have studied bonsai and old growth trees for the last decade, and create wire sculptures with classic bonsai styles that emulate old growth trees.
Bonsai trees capture the essence of being in nature. However, they are hard to keep alive - it only takes one bad day to kill a tree that might be decades or centuries old. Luckily, these wire sculptures are much more resilient! I create them to bring people joy, and also donate both trees and some money that I get from making these to worthy causes - everything from scholarships for STEM education, organizations that help at risk youth, museums, and national parks.
Bring people joy through the art of wire bonsai.
If you're interested in owning one of these sculptures, I am willing to consider doing a commissioned piece. The costs are determined by the time it takes to create the tree, and the materials (bonsai pot/wire/beads/filler stones and clay).
Creating wire bonsai tree is meditative, but also tedious. A small bonsai - 3 inches high, can take anywhere from 6-10 hours to craft, and the larger ones between 12 - 19 inches high can take between 40-100 hours. It all depends on the style of the tree and what is used in creating them.
Also, I occasionally donate small wire sculptures to charitable auctions, so you might purchase them through fundraising events as well. They seem to go for a much higher premium when people have had a few glasses of wine.
Please email me to explore having one of these art pieces - kyfu.bonsai@gmail.com. Also, check out my instagram and facebook pages for more examples of my art. I will announce on social media if/when sculptures will go on auction at a charitable event.
